Book Week Inspires Young Readers at Aldridge School
Our annual Book Week proved to be a huge hit with Year 7 and 8 students, who were treated to an unforgettable visit from award-winning author Darren Simpson. Known for his powerful storytelling and gripping novels for older children and teens, Darren captivated the audience with fascinating insights into the writing process, the inspiration behind his books, and the creative power of imagination.
Darren is the author of acclaimed novels including Scavengers, The Memory Thieves, and Furthermoor. His work has been recognised with numerous awards, and he has also been nominated twice for the prestigious Carnegie Medal.
Year 7 pupils were especially inspired by Darren’s visit, producing striking artwork based on Scavengers that brought his world to life in vibrant detail.
F.Smith, a Year 7 pupil, commented, “It was amazing to meet an author, Darren Simpson made me want to write my own stories!”
Book Week is an important part of how we welcome Year 7 students into the school community and encourage a lifelong love of reading. Throughout the first term, a range of exciting book-themed competitions have taken place, with over 120 prizes set to be awarded at our Prize Giving Ceremony on Thursday 23rd October. We are thrilled to welcome local poet and musician, Damani Dennisur, to present the awards and help us celebrate the creativity and enthusiasm our students have shown.
